Uganda snatch Victoria Cup title from Kenya at Mt Kipipiri golf club

Uganda managed to stun Kenya to reclaim the Victoria Cup title that came to an end yesterday at the par 72 Mt Kipipiri golf club in Kenya.

Kenya, who were their way to claim the 4th title in a row, failed to shine at home after falling to Uganda, who last won the title in 2019 in the two nations annual golf tournament.

The three day tournament teed off on Thursday with Uganda enjoying the lead in all days to claim the title to bring the Victoria Cup back home.

Yesterday, the last day of the tournament, the battle Kenyan came from behind to defeat Uganda in opening round 3-1.

Team Uganda teed off on the final day with the singles and Kenya won four singles games in succession from Beiju Shah over Abdallah Kakooza, Elvis Muigua over Anthony Otukei, John Lejirma over Ibrahim Ssemakula and Daniel Kiragu over Abdul Kakeeto but Titus Okwong and John Musiimenta restored Uganda’s cushion after magnificent victories when Tsevi Sono and Josephat Rono, and with Joseph Reagan Akena halving his showdown with Ebill Omollo, the writing was on the wall for Team Uganda’s victory. Uganda’s other singles game was a half between team captain Joseph Cwinya-ai and Kevin Anyien

The loss of Peter Mayende and win of Elton Thembo didn’t matter; Uganda had reclaimed the Victoria Cup after a tense contest and it’s only the second time Uganda has won the Victoria Cup in the nine-year history of the two-country competition.
