Tokyo Olympic Games medalists were today rewarded by President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Mombasa State House where he announced cash rewards.
Kenyatta announced that the medalists will be paid as follows: Kh1 million, Sh750, 000 and Sh500, 000 for Gold, Silver and Bronze medalists respectively.
Kenya won 4 gold through Peres Jepchirchir (Marathon), Emmanuel Korir (800m), Faith Kipyegon (1,500m) and Eliud Kipchoge (Marathon), 4 silver from Hellen Obiri (5,000m0, Ferguson Rotich (800m), Timothy Cheruiyot (1,500m) and Brigid Kosgei (marathon0 while the 2 bronze were won by Benjamin Kigen (3,000m steeplechase) and Hyvin Kiyeng (3,000m steeplechase).
He also announced a uniform token of Shs 200,000 for all athletes and officials, including the Paralympics team, participating in delayed Summer Games.
