Busu said that the victory came in at a good time after finishing 4th in many championships as they prepare for the league set to start on January 24th.

“We have been losing this title for many years and a win today was a great revenge. At the same time, it gives me a good time to select a formidable team that will play in the league set for next month,” said Busu.

The champions won three opening quarters before going down in the 4th and last quarter. The champions won the first quarter at 24-07 followed by 18-15 for the first half at 42-22. On resumption, the winners won the third at 18-10 but ANU squeezed in the last quarter at 9-20.

Mayenge said that he had to plan on how to revenge after losing a title last month to Kisii at their backyard.

“This was sweet with beating our rivals on a sweet revenge mission. At the moment, we shall go back in training ahead of Match play offs and league preparations,” he said.

Kenyatta University (KU) both men and women were the winners in netball in a round robin play. KU topped the rank after winning all their matches in both gender.

In men, they led the hosts UOE followed by Kisii while women side, the second position went to Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) as hosts managed third position.

In football, the match between defending champions KU’s Hard Nuts and hosts UOE ended prematurely after fans invaded the play field, forcing match officials and KU players to abandon the match.

The invasion was occasioned by the hosts equalizing goal in the 60th minute after KU had scored in the 30th minute of the first half.

KU, who were casing their 5th title in a row, had scored through Captain Austin Tandasi before Peter Ouma leveling.

Tandasi had hoped to lead his side into victory.

“We were prepared to win but things went the other way. We are disappointed but we have to accept the results,” said Tandasi.

His counterpart Jeff Oluoch said that as hosts, it is a loss to them because they wanted a win.

“We wanted to play the match even after invasion but our opponents declined making it difficult to make the decision but we hope we shall have official communication on the match,” said Oluoch.

During the melee, one KU player was injured adding up reasons to why champions declined to return to the field, and the game was halted.

UON shone against then reigning champions MMUST in a five setter thriller winning in 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 23-25 and 13-15.
