Champions United States International University (USIU-Africa) started on a high on the opening of the 7th edition of Kenya universities Sports Association (KUSA) Games at Moi University, Annex Campus today.
USIU men’s hockey team defeated Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) 2-1 to set their title defence on high.

Scores from Brian Kiplimo Jamleck Maina sealed the victory for the winners as Paul Bakasa scored a consolation for the champions.
Kiplimo opened the score in the first quarter before Bakasa equalized in the preceding quarter before Maina restored the lead that made USIU head coach Wilson Otieno a happy man, winning the opener.
“We are here on a mission of defending the title. As we take the lead in the opening match, we need to take each game at a time,” said Otieno.
As men shone in hockey, their women counterparts were thrashed 3-0 by Kenyatta University side The Desert Roses in pitch women soccer.
With just 6 minutes from whistle, Grace Wekesa opened the score to give KU 1-0 lead into break. Irene Kariuki addd the second as Mercy Adong sealed the victory with her score.
Hosts Moi University played out to a barren draw against JKUAT in men’s soccer.
