Fourteen year old Shashwat Harish emerged victorious at the concluded 2nd edition of the Annual Kabete Junior Challenge Cup played at the Vet Lab Sports Club yesterday.
The 4 day event, which is a World Amateur Ranking (WAGR) teed off on Thursday, Harish fired three over par in the final round to emerge the overall boy winner with an aggregate score of 304 gross for the Muthaiga based player.
Enjoying home advantage, Belinda Wanjiru played a total of 319 gross to emerge the overall girl winner and defend her trophy that she also won last year during the inaugural tournament.
In the 18 years and under category, home player Krish Shah played the best round of the tournament shooting an impressive 3 under par score in the final round to emerge the boy winner while Antonia Mbuthia from Muthaiga Golf Club emerged the girl winner. Other winners included; Nathan Mwangi from Karen Golf and Country Club, boy winner in the 16 years and under while Muthaiga’s Hazel Kuria was the girl winner in the same category. Kayden Wissanji from Windsor was the boy winner in the 14 years and under category, while Cherono Kipkorir from Royal, was the girl winner in that category. The 12 years and under category was dominated by Windsor’s George Ikirima boy winner and Kanana Muthomi who was the girl winner.
The Tournament having been first held in 2023 is open to juniors who are 18 years and under and with a world handicap index of 24.0 for boys and 28.0 for girls.
Focus now shifts to The Limuru Junior Open to be held on the 4th-6th of August 2024 at Limuru Country Club
