Former world under 20 10,000m walk champion Heriston Wanyonyi and Victor Kipkurui dominated Athletics Kenya Track and Field Meet at the Moi stadium, Kisumu.
Wanyonyi, now representing National Police Service (NPS) won the men’s race walk in 43:32.6 ahead of Dominic Samson Ndigiti (43.47.9) and Stephen Ndangih for the title in today’s last day of the championships.
The champion said it will be his time to represent the country at the world championships set for Budapest Hungary in the year.
“It has been well and the victory has opened days for me to prepare for the world championships later in the year,” said Wanyonyi after winning the first event of the day on Saturday morning in a crowded track.
Kipkirui managed to shine in the 10,000m race in 29:21.4 ahead of Johnston Meli (29:21.8) and Barnabas Kosgei (29:28.3) for third.
Wesley lang’at and caren Chebet were the winners of 3,000m steeplechase in men and women races respectively.
In women, Chebet won the water and barriers race in 10:20.4 ahead of Betty Chepngeno (10:30.4) and Teresa Cherotich (10:50.8) in that order.
Langat won the men’s race in 9:00.6 followed by Philemon Kosgei (9:00.9) and Ronald Mutau (9:14.8).
