Wanyonyi, Gathimba, Moraa, Mumbua shine at AK meeting at Nyayo

World under 20 race walk champion Heristone Wanyonyi and Africa Walk champion Samuel Gathimba claimed the junior and senior race walks at the second and last day of Athletics kenya track and field championships at Nyayo stadium.

Gathimba from Kenya Prisons Service won the men’s 20km walk title in 1:26.3 ahead of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Simon Wachira (1:36.6) with Erick Shikuku ending the podium timing 1:38.1 and Africa walk champion Samson Dominic Ndigiti coming in 4th at 1:40.4.

In women’s senior walk, KDF’s Emily Ngii won the title in 1:43:6, ahead of Sylvia Kemboi (1:46.4) and Naum Jepkirui from KDF was third in 1:50:6.

Wanyonyi claimed victory in junior 10km race walk 46:37.5 beating Stephen Ndagiri (52:19.4) and Dominic Mwenda (54:20.5).

Agnes Mumbua won the 10,000m women title in 33:17.18 edging out Emily Chebet to second timing 33:55.52 and KDF’s Dorothy Kipkikach (33:57.29) was third.

Mary Moraa from Kenya Police Service won the women’s 400m in 53.41 beating Africa Under-18 400m silver medallist Linda Kagweha (54.73) and Mercy Adija (55.18).

As Moraa shown in women, NPS runner Stanley Kieti won the men’s title in 47.06 beating William Ryan (47.21) and Elkana Kiprotich (47.59).
