Well represented by the region’s chairperson Lucy Chebungei, Webuye won four titles to take majority of the teams to the national level where only the winner got the single slot.
The Bungoma based campus won both men and women volleyball titles in the matches played in round robin format where each discipline was represented by four teams drawn from North Rift and Western Zones.
Webuye went ahead to claim the handball men and basketball men to the nationals where they will compete against three other regions. Region one is represented by Coast, Nairobi and Eastern, region two carrying North Eastern, Central and South Rift while region three as North Rift and Western and region four has Nyanza.
The Kakamega from Kakamega county campus booked handball men and rugby 7s to the national while Kapenguria of West Pokot managed to have three slots, the rugby 15s, hockey women and basketball women.
Uasin Gishu’s Eldoret managed to sent two teams of hockey men and netball
Busia from Busia County and Lugari from Kakamega county managed to win the football me’s title, Lugari’s football women titles.
Chebungei said that they have managed to raise very good teams that will provide competitive championships when they land to Mombasa.
“We have very strong teams and this will help us as a region to provide a health competition to our opponents,” said Chebungei.
She added that the high level of discipline that was witnessed is a clear sign that the students have understood the meaning of sports
“The students have remained objective and that is what is needed in sports. If we had any form of indiscipline or fielding ineligible player, it could have brought in many challenges but that has not been witnessed. We only allow KMTC students but no age limits for us,” she said.
In the handball women, the winners champions Kakamega won all their matches, starting with a 7-4 win over Kaptumo from Nandi County, 10-01 over Webuye and 16-05 win over Iten from Elgeyo Marakwet County.
