Were and Kipkwony shine at Kip keino Classic

World under 20 runner Wiseman Were, Julius Kipkwony and Miranda Coetzee were the winners of today’s Kip Keino Classic, the World Athletics Continental Tour at the Kasarani stadium.

Were won the men’s 400m title while Kipkwony redeemed his image to win 10,000m after finishing second last month during the national trials.

Coming from Central Rift, and Torongo Training camp in Baringo County won the 10,000m title in 28:28.34 ahead of Wesley Kimutai in 28:32.09 and Abraham Longosiwa in 28:35.01.

“I’m so happy to have won the race and I had to run a calculative race. Winning today has given me more energy to go and work on my training endurance and speed because Africa Championships will be competitive,” said Chepkwony.

It was his best moment to prove to the nation that he is a great runner after finishing second at the National trials behind winner and Ras Al Khimah half marathon champion Kennedy Kiprop.

“It was a good way of proving that I can run well after finishing second at the national championships last week,” he added.

In 400m men, Ryan William won the title in 45:51 ahead of Collins Omae (46:03) and Kelvin Tauta completing the podium in 46.07.
