After missing the national championships last month, reigning Africa junior 5,000m silver medalist Jacob Krop and Ethiopian Girmawit Gibrzihair were the 5,000m champions at the third edition of Kip Keino Classic, the World Athletics Continental Gold Tour at the Kasarani stadium.
The Olympic 5,000m finalists stunned Daniel Simiu Ebenyo, former world under 20 5,000m champion Edward Zakayo pingua for the 5,000m title.
He won in 13:12.19 ahead of reigning Istanbul half marathon silver medalist Daniel Meteiko to second in 13:13.45 and national 5,000m champion Daniel Ebenyo Simiu 13:14.51 to third.
World under 20 5,000m bronze medalist Levy Kibet was 4th when he timed 13:15.57 while former world under 18 5,000m silver medalist Zakayo was 5th in 13:20.51.
In women, Gibrzihair won the race in 14:49.97 followed by Kenyan born turn Kazakhstan and former Africa Junior 2,000m steeplechase silver medalist Daisy Chepkemei (15:08.97) as world under 20 5,000m Silver medalist Zenah Chemutai Yego of Kenya completing the podium in 15:12.59.
In other results former Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion Mercy Cherono was 4th in 15:15.39 and Selah Jepleting was 5th 15:28.05.
