Celebrated marathoner Wilson Kipsang was named the brand ambassador for the inaugural Rimoi Kapnarok Half marathon to be run on 9th December 2018 in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The former world marathon record holder, who won London marathon twice is one of the most achieved athlete in the county and will be using the half marathon event to converse the Rimoi Games Reserve, which is among the few forest in the country that has elephants and the big five animals.
“I am happy to have been chosen to be the ambassador for such great event. The forest conservation is long overdue and we have to act fast to prevent it from further degradation,” said the former Tokyo marathon winner.
Coming from the county, Kipsnag said they have to save the lives of future generation and the marathon should be successful.
“We will not just be running but we will be running for s course-saving the forest. We have many athletes who will be taking part in the race and each athlete will have to plant a tree to save the environment. If we don’t do it now, then we shall be blamed in future,” added the former New York City marathon champion.
The forest on the basement of the escarpments of Elgeyo Marakwet hanging valleys is one of the few Kenyan forests that still have elephants with indigenous trees.
