Geoffrey Kamworor will be seeking to win his third IAAF World Half title as Kenyan team jets out of the country for the event that takes place this Saturday in Valencia, Spain.
Kamworor first won the title in 2014, defended his title in 2016 and all eyes will be on him as he tackles the Trinidad Alfonso Valencia Half marathon course.
The reigning New York City marathon champion is accompanied by former Africa cross country champion Leonard Barsoton, double Family Bank Half marathon champion Jorum Lumbasi Barselius Kipyego and Alex Oloitiptip in absence of world half marathon silver medallist Bedan Karoki.
The team departs tonight for the event as World half marathon record holder Joyciline Jepkoshei leads the women’s race together with Fancy Chemutai, former Berlin marathon champion Mary Wacera, Ruth Chepng’etich and Pauline Kaveke.
Kenyan team will be seeking to defend overall title they won in Cardiff City in 2016.
kamworor won the Cardiff meeting in 59:10 followed by Karoki (59:36)in a 1-2 Kenyan finish while Peres Jepchirchir flew Kenyan flag with 67:31 ahead of Cynthia Limo (67:34) and Wacera (67:54) in an all Kenyan podium finish.
