Zeka Wakoli has vowed to continue with his scoring ways when his team Global Field Evangelism (GFE) 105 come face to face with former premier League side City Stars in the Nation Super League that enters week three.
The newly promoted side GFE that was playing at a lower tier will be targeting to scalp the experienced side City Stars at Eldoret’s Kipchoge Keino Stadium on Saturday and Wakoli was optimistic they will win.
The Eldoret based team missed to play in the opening match since their fixture had a Y as KPL and Football Kenya Federation battles out on which teams should be demoted between Sofapaka and Muhoroni Youth.
Wakoli netted four goals in their opening match to beat Talanta FC 5-2 and he says even if they are facing a match experienced side, he is optimistic he will net more since they are playing at home.
“Scoring last week boosted my morale to score more in each match. As a striker, I have been given the mandate to score,” said Wakoli.
He said the challenges in playing against City Stars but he banks his hopes on striking team mates Godfrey Ochieng, Boniface Wafula and Elvis Okusi to deliver his mandate.
“Our attacking system is good and I believe we will not have many challenges in scoring and nothing will stop us from scoring after sharpening our skills for the better part of our training programmes,” added Wakoli.
His coach Joshua Obare is hopeful of a win at home owing to the players’ composure and renewed moral after they were promoted to play in the National Super League.
“The team has been training since after our last games and the morale is high. The players are confident and we expect some goals from my strikers,” Obare said.
Obare said that City Stars was playing in the KPL, that doesn’t worry them but they will treat the team with respect.
“We know that they played in the premier league before relegation and that does not worry us. We have trained and we will respect them for having played in KPL but we must fight our way to victory,” he added.
The team has played with some of the KPL clubs including former KPL champions Gor Mahia which they eliminated during the 2015 GoTV shield.
“We have met with some teams and we know their tactics. I have good players though three of them got injuries in our previous match but the squad is intact,” he added.
He praised their promotion saying it exposes the players and giving them an opportunity play in some of the well furnished fields.
GFC is ranked fourth in the NSL rankings with 3 points while Wazito Fc is topping the standings with 6 points followed by Polos FC and Nakuru All Stars all with 4 points.
