Home player Bruce Madete carded an impressive 41 Stableford points to win the Kenya Seed Golf Tournament played yesterday at the Kakamega Golf Club.
Playing off handicap 17, Madete led a dominant showing by home players in the annual event, which attracted 107 golfers from Eldoret, Kitale, Kericho, Nyanza, Mumias and other regions.
Cedric Konzolo, a regular on the Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series, claimed the gross title after returning a fine one-over-par 73.
The home side continued its dominance in the division categories, with A. Maleche winning Division One on 39 points, D. Mwaura taking Division Two with 40 points, and Isaac Oketch sealing Division Three after scoring 36 points.
In the runners-up positions, Julius Oketch, L. Luchivya and A. Ambetsa posted 39, 37 and 31 points respectively in Divisions One, Two and Three.
Third place honours went to J. Atito of Nyanza, H. Isavwa and E. Getanda, who carded 36, 37 and 31 points respectively.
Leonard Kibet from Kitale returned 33 points to emerge as the sponsors’ winner, finishing ahead of compatriot Ian Kae, who scored 32 points.
In the special prizes, Nyanza’s E. Mburu and M. Govoga won the first and second nine awards on 23 and 26 points respectively.
Nandi Bears’ Kimeli Mutai and Nyanza’s Maurine Nasimiyu Nyongesa walked away with the men’s and women’s longest drive titles, while Kitale captain Haron Ndegwa clinched the nearest-to-the-pin prize.
In the junior category, Kakamega pair Wayne Getanda and Chloe Derek finished first and second with 43 and 34 points respectively, while Mumias’ Stephen Sirisaga claimed the best effort award after carding 18 points.
