AIU hands Kipkorir four years ban for doping

Athletes Integrity Unit (AIU) has handed Gold Coast marathon bronze medalist Japheth Kipchirchir Kipkorir four years ban after he was found guilty for doping allegations.

According to AIU, the athlete violated the World Athletics (WA) anti-doping rules following the announcements on Friday that he tested positive to prohibited substance Norandrosterone.

His ban started on 11th May 2020 for four years and his results dating back to November 10, 2019 will be nullified.

The athlete finished third at 2011 Gold Coast Marathon (2:10:50) was provisionally suspended last month.

His ban increases the list of Kenyan runners who are facing the ban and possible ban only this year.

These include Mikel Kiprotich Mutai who was banned for four years when he tested positive for Norandrosterone and Alex Oloitiptip wcase had not been determined.

The news came just after 2017 London Marathon champion Daniel Wanjiru, Kenneth Kipkemoi, 2014 World Under-20 800m champion Alfred Kipketer and former world marathon record holder, Wilson Kipsang, Mercy Kibarus, Vincent Kipsegechi Yator and Peter Kwemoi are all inline.
