Ajowi win gold as Hit Squad settle for Bronze at Africa Boxing

Kenya’s Elly Ajowi was the only gold medalist at the concluded Africa Zone 3 Boxing Championship in Kinshasa, DRC as Kenya’s Hit Squad won 13 medals to win bronze.

With his journey to Tokyo Olympics Games, Ajowi won golf in the heavyweight category and the country bagged gold, five silver, and seven bronze medals.

Competing for the National Police Service, defeated Cameroonian Yegnong Maxime for the title in an overwhelming decision.

Another Olympic bound and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Christine Ongare (flyweight) settled for silver. She won the medal without stepping into the ring against Burundian Havyarimana Ornella after doctirs advised her not to compete with an eye injury.

Other silver medals were won by Joshua Wasikeafter losing to DRC’s Dimuntu Chipateau in the 91kgs, Welterweight Boniface Mugunde lost to Kayla Engulu of DRC in the 69kgs category and Flyweight David Karanja when he lost to Mungu Biakulolowa of DRC in the 52kgs bout.

Bronze medals were won by Stacy Ayoma (lightweight), Elizabeth Akinyi (welterweight), Elizabeth Andiego (middleweight), Edwin Okong’o and Cosby Ouma won bronze in the middleweight and light heavyweight Hezron Maganga.
