Australia women football team thumbed Malawi women football team in the opening fixtures of FIFA Series hosted at the Nyayo National stadium today.
Popularly called Matildas, they lived their expectations, netting 5-0 past where Emily van Egmond scored first with Chelsea striker and captain Sam Kerr enjoying the match.
Kerr scored the second goal in the 20th minute for a 2-0 lead into the break.
Alexandra Chidiac made it 3-0 on return as Holly McNamara made it 4-0 in the 86th minute before Kerr’s brace made it 5-0 at the final whistle.
With 5-0, Australia became the first team to book the grand final on Wednesday, April 15 and will take on the winner of the evening clash between the Harambee Starlets and India.
