It was another blow for Kenyan boxers when Christine Ongare was punched out of the ongoing Olympic Games at Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
Ongare was punched out by Philippines boxer Irish Magno in their women’s flyweight (48-51kg) division round 32 clash
The exit of Ongare follows that of team captain Nicholas Okoth eho lost on Saturday in the opening round in the hands of Mongolian Tsendbaater Erdenebat in a round of 32.
It was a unanimous decision by the judges that Magno had won 5-0, which was heartbreak for the 27-year-old Ongare on her Olympic debut.
Kenya’s two other boxers – heavyweight Elly Ajowi (81-91) and welterweight (64-69kg) Elizabeth Akinyi – have both received byes to the next round.
