Boston marathon: Gladys Chesir in big league

Former world half marathon bronze medalist Gladys Chesir has set her focus in running her second marathon at this year’s Boston marathon in April 18th.

After finishing second in her marathon debut last year at Amsterdam marathon, Chesir is focused for top places on the American soil.

“This is only my second marathon so I can’t say much but I want to do my best,” said the reigning All Africa Games 10,000m silver medalist.

Iten based road runner said she is training well for the race where majority of those invited are top runners being one of the world marathon majors race.

“My preparations are on course hoping to run well,” added Chesir who will compete with defending champion Edna Kiplagat for the title.

Chesir has 66:57 will be joined by former champion Caroline Rotich, Bahrain’s Olympian Eunice Kirwa and three-time Dubai Marathon winner Aselefech Mergia of Ethiopia. Course record-holder Buzunesh Deba of Ethiopia will return to the scene of her 2014 triumph, while two-time Frankfurt Marathon winner Mamitu Daska will be making her third appearance in Boston.

In men’s race, Geoffrey Kirui will be competing against Norbert Kigen, Evans Chebet, Felix Kandie and Toronto marathon champion Philemon Rono.

But three-time Amsterdam Marathon winner Wilson Chebet will be making his fifth appearance in Boston. Chebet has personal best of 2:05:27, finished fifth in Boston last year but has twice made it on to the podium, placing second in 2014 and third in 2015.
