Reigning Chicago marathon champion Brigid Kosgey will be competing on Saturday’s 5th edition of Kalya Half marathon in West Pokot County as part of her preparations for 2019 season.
Fresh from winning Kakamega Forest 21km, Kosgey will be returning to the course that cuts across two counties of Trans Nzoia and West Pokot.
“I know the race will be too competitive since the region has not had many races but I have to work my way to win the title,” said Kosgey who finished second at the 2018 London marathon behind winner Vivian Cheruiyot.
The 2017 Honolulu marathon winner said she was preparing well for the event hoping to emulate what she did during Kakamega Half marathon when she won in 72:30.
“I will try to my level best and come out with a win. I will be competing on the course for the third time and I have tested how the course is and it is my time to take home the title,” added the 2017 Bogota half marathon winner.
The event will begin in Trans Nzoia’s Maili Saba area to end at Makutano Market in West Pokot.
“The region is hotter that where I train but that won’t deter me from winning the race. Those some of the challenges I will face,” added the 2017 Chicago marathon silver medalist.
She also finished second at the 2018 Great North Run behind Cheruiyot and second too at 2016 Lisbon half marathon before finishing third in Copenhagen in 2017.
