Captain Kirui to play at Great Rift golf in Nakuru

The Great Rift Golfing Society (GRGS) captain Stanley Kirui will be taking on the tee during the societies golf tournament on Saturday at Nakuru golf club.

The tournament, which is a charitable organization is mainly used to support young and most talented golfers in the country during the 14th meetings across the country since 2013.

Playing handicap 08 at his Royal club, Kirui was optimistic that the event will be successful following the large turnout of golfers where they go round the country in various clubs playing in quarterlies and the Nakuru meeting will be the last one this year.

“So far since we started we have had 13 golf events and the Nakuru will mark our 14th meeting. In our society, we play for charity to support talented young people and now we have four of them,” said Kirui on Thursday evening while shaping his skills at Royal club ahead of Nakuru meeting.

He said they are now supporting four young golfers-two from Nakuru and other two from Nandi Bears golf clubs. From Nakuru are Elly Barno and Eliud Kemboi while Nandi has John Kamaisi and Gentle Festol.

“Our aim is to support them to play in majority of national tournaments. Last meeting was in Royal club and our next meeting will be in Kericho. we normally organize such events in Nakuru, Nairobi, South and North Rift regions,” added Kirui.

According to Kirui, they have to start early so that they can accommodate as many golfers as possible since the tournament will be in large number.

“We want all golfers who will turn up for the event to play and starting early will mean thatwe will have longer time for play compared to the normal starting time,” added Kirui.

He will be on the tee at 9.00am playing alongside P. Koech, P. Muhia and K. Wambugu after H. Fazal, M. Kiruthi and P. Githuki teeing first at 6:40am.
