Catherine Reline quit track, focus on Copenhagen half marathon and New York City Marathon

It is official that the reigning Abu Dhabi marathon champion Catherine Amanang’ole Reline has quit track running to concentrate on road especially the half marathons and marathons.

Speaking after defending her Moi Kapsowar Charity Conservation half marathon title in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Reline said that she will not be chasing for a slot to represent the country at the World Athletics Championships set to be staged in Tokyo, Japan.

“I can’t compete at the world championships this year because I am off road running, not track again. I have had a good run on track and it is my time to move to roads. I am sure of competing well in road races,” said Reline.

The reigning World Road Running half marathon bronze medalist said that she will be chasing to compete at the Copenhagen half marathon then New York City Marathon before the end of this year.

She wants to return to Copenhagen after finishing third last year

“I want to make a statement in road running. I have done it before and I want to do it again the best way,” said Reline.

In December last year, she made her debut, winning the Abu Dhabi marathon at 2:20:34 after pacing at the London marathon.

At the international level, she managed to win the Saint Silvester Road race twice- 2022 and 2023- after finishing third at the Buenos Aires 10km.

“I want to compete at the Copenhagen half marathon then New York marathon later in the year after doing it the best way last year especially in Copenhagen,” she said.

Locally, she has dominated in many races including victories at the 2024 Discovery Cross Country, 2023 Chemususu half marathon,  Nakuru City Half marathon, among others.
