Cecafa title defence flops as Stars fall to Eritrea

Harambee Stars failed to defend their Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup when they lost to minors Eritrea today in the first semifinal match in Uganda.

With head coach Francis Kimanzi returning from suspension, Stars lost 4-1 to Eritrea to make their maiden final appearance.

Ulinzi Stars striker Oscar Wamalwa scored in his own net to give the winners a lead before Abel Solomon scored the second as Wamalwa made amends to half the score for a 2-1 lead. But the celebration was cut short when Micheal Habte Gebremesqel scored the third goal for Eritrea and captain Robel Teklemichel sealed the victory.

Following the win, Eritrea will hosts Uganda who beat Tanzania in the second semi-final.

Kenya will now face Tanzania in the third place play-off. The duo play again after Kenya won by a solitary goal in the pool B opening match.
