Sportpesa Super Cup champions Gor Mahia FC started their title defence on high with a 3-0 win against Jeshi La Kujenga Uchumi (J.K.U) fromTanzania in the second quarter final match played at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru today.
The Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions are expected to play either their perennial rivals AFC Leopards of Tanzanian Singida with the two playing each other on Tuesday.
With Gor currently leading the KPL table, first lost the penalty through Ephrem Guikan, with JKU keeper Mohammed Abrahman saving after George Odhiambo was fouled in the box.
But the 16 time champions got their footing as Odhiambo controlled Francis Kahata’s cross and riffling it into the top right corner to give Gor a deserved 1-0 lead on 30th minute.
K’Ogalo defender Godfrey Walusimbi added the second with his left footed strike from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner for a 2-0 goal on 35th minute.
Gor began the second just as they had left the first, applying constant pressure resulting in a good chance by scorer Odhiambo that went inches wide, two minutes after the restart.
Dylan Kerr, Gor’s coach introduced Lawrence Juma with Philemon Otieno and Kahata Meddie Kagere.
With a touch of luck, Kagere scored the third for Gor on the 81st
The last chance of the game fell for the illustrious Omondi who was put through with a fantastic through ball but didn’t quite get it right as his shot went flying over the bar.
