Chespol, the only medal hope in 3,000m steeplechase in Oregon

Two time world under 20 3,000m steeplechase champion Celliphine Chespol Chepteek will be the only hope for Kenya to win a medal at the ongoing world Athletics championships in Oregon, USA.

Chespol, won in her heat, which was too slow to make to final after her compatriots Purity Kirui and Jackline Chepkoech failed to make the cut.

After world record holder and defending champion Beatrice Chepkoech missed out at the championships, the burden now lies with Chespol.

Kenyan-born Kazakhstan Norah Jeruto won in her first heat ahead of Ethiopia’s Werkuha Getachew and Tunisia’s Marwa Bouzayani.

Kenya’s World Under-20 steeplechase champion Jackline Chepkoech was handed a rude welcome to the senior ranks.
