Comoros dim Stars AFCON hopes

Kenya’s Harambee Stars hopes of qualifying for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is in limbo after losing to Comoros in the return leg fixture in Moroni.

Kenya, who failed to capitalize on the 10-man at home in the first fixture at Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani and played to a one all draw.

But today, Comoros used their home advantage well to dim stars with a 2-1 at the Malouzini Stadium to take the pool G lead with 8 points from four matches.

El Fardou Ben scored first for the home side in the 21st minute, before Cliff Nyakeya levelled for Jacon Ghost Mulee side in the 36th minute as Faiz Mattoir scored the winner in the 49th minute.

This result leaves Kenya winless in four of her opening group matches in this competition, the team’s worst record in the competition in more than two decades.

Following the win, Egypt will now sit scond on five points after beating Togo yesterday 1-0 as Kenya remained in third position with three points and Togo tail with a point they collected against Kenya at Kasarani.

The next fixture, Stars will play away to Lome before hosting Egypt at home.
