Sydney sevens: Shujaa lose 7-5 to Argentina in match opener

Shujaa, the Kenya7s team lost the opening match of HBSC world ruby series to Argentina today in a pool B encounter.

The Sydney event, the third round of the series, was a bad day for Innocent Simiyu led charges after going down 7-5 to Argentina as they face France and Wales in tomorrow’s encounter.

Kenya made one unconverted try while their opponents made a single try with a conversion.

Shujaa came from 7-0 down, keeping possession and gaining territory until Gaston Revol followed through on his kick over the Kenyan defense, scoring and converting for a 7-0 to half time. The scores would remain this way going into the break.

Shujaa still dominated after the restart, Andrew Amonde going over the whitewash but Eden Agero’s conversion attempt bounced off the posts, a two point buffer separating the two sides. Shujaa’s best efforts wielded no positive returns and a last gasp error gifted the gleeful Argentinians the opportunity to find touch and take the two point result.

Up next for Shujaa is a match against France at 7.25am on Saturday morning. The French started their campaign with a 31-12 win over Wales
