Reigning Commonwealth Games 10,000m silver medalist Daniel Simiu Ebenyo is preparing to run his personal best when he makes an international debut in half marathon come 23rd December 2022 when he lines up at the Bahrain Night Half marathon.
Simiu, who is part of team Kenya for the world cross country championships in Bathurst, Australia said that running at the Bahrain Night race will be part of endurance ahead of February 18th world cross country.
“Running half marathon is good for me because of endurance and I have been running many half marathons in Kenya but not abroad. This is the first time I will be running away from home,” said Simiu.
He said that his preparations have been good and he will be going to run his best, a personal best in the hot weather condition.
“I know the place is warm but it will be run at night and I believe in myself that I will run a good race with personal best. My target is to run under one hour as a debut in an international half marathon,” he said.
After finishing second at the Athletics Kenya national cross country trials two weeks ago, said that the position was good as it positioned him ready, good and capable to run well at the world stage.
“I am going to test myself,”they always say shake the match box to confirm if there are match sticks. Am well prepared with the help of my coach Erick Kogo that I will deliver something good, which will make him happy and one proud of myself too,” he said.
He added that being in the Kenya team is a big honour, thanking God for the slot to represent the country.
“You may never know and next year God willing in Australia, I promise to work hard. I know it will be hard but to me everything is not hard until it is proven to be so,” added Simiu.
Simiu, who is perfecting his skills in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet added that he has been yearning for the national anthem after missing at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham when he finished second behind Ugandan Jacob Kiplimo.
The reigning Standard Chartered Naiorbi half marathon champion said that he has the obligation to earn the world title.
“I am hungry for the national anthem. All I am doing in this training is to ensure that I run well and earn that coveted ticket to Bathurst,” he added.
