Commonwealth games 100m champion Ferdinand Omanyala finished in the 100m race in today’s Shanghai Diamond League, the World Athletics meeting in China.
Competing in back to back events, Omanyala failed to beat South African Akan Simbine who won back to back races after last weekend’s Xiamen meeting.
Simbine won the 100m title in 9.82, lowering his time from last week’s 9.99 with Jamaica’s Thompson Kishane coming second at 9.99 with Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo coming third at 10.03
Omanyala, who finished second in Xiamen at 10.00, dropped to 7th at 10.25
Kenyans struggled to compete in other races with world 5,000m silver medalist Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli finishing in position 8 in 12:56.81 in a race won by Aregawi Beirhu (12:50.45) followed by Girma Kuma (12:50.69) and Some Mezgebu (12:51.86) in an all Ethiopian podium sweep.
Other Kenyans in the 5,000m were former world under 20 5,000m champion Benson Kiplagat (13:09.90) who was 7th followed in 8th position by compatriot Cornelius Kemboi (13:10.60).
Reigning world under 20 3,000m steeplechase champion Edmund Serem settled for silver in the 3,000m ahead of compatrion Simon Kiprop Koech in a race won by Ethiopian Abrham Sime.
The Ethiopian dominated the water and barriers race winning in 8:07.92 with Serem coming second at 8:08.68 and Koech completing the podium at 8:09.05.
Double Commonwealth Games 3,000m steeplechase silver medalist Abraham Kibiwot was 7th at 8:12.56.
