Edward Zakayo, Mary Moraa set to shine at trials

Edward zakayo made the headlines at the 2017 IAAF World Under 18 championships at Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani winning silver in 3,000m.

With his exploits, in all surfaces-track and cross country, the Kapsait secondary school student went ahead to claim 5,000m bronze in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast Australia as one of the youngest athlete in history to win a medal in world games.

This Monday, Zakayo is expected to light up Kasarani Stadium as a galaxy of local young talents to Kasarani as Athletics Kenya will be selecting to next month’s World Under20 championship in Tampere, Poland.

Zakayo lost the world under 18 title to Ethiopian Selemon Barega but he is most likely to face Stanley Waithaka who finished 3rd the same race. Waithaka also won the national cross country junior title.

Also in race will be Africa Cross country junior champion Rhonex Kipruto, who broke the U.S. All-Comers record when he won the UAE Healthy Kidney 10-K race in New York in May.

World under 17 400m silver medalist Mary Moraa will be targeting another surprise at the trials. Moraa, the student fromMogonga secondary school will be leading the talent after she stunned the stadium in 4x400m mixed realys, beating Brazilian boys in heats to qualify for finals. Her stunning run gained much viewership on youtube.

World Under18 bronze medalist Dominic Ndigiti is expected to give a healthy competition in 10,000m walk.

Having the national junior record of 1:25.78, the Kiandege secondary school student will be working his way to the stardom in search of a slot.

Lydia Jeruto, the silver medalist at world under 18 will be chasing another title. The Torongo training camp runner will be expected to revenge against World Under18 girls 800m champion Jackline Wambui.
