The reigning world 800m silver medalist Emmanuel Wanyonyi will be the only Kenyan to fly the flag in the 800m final set for Sunday in the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Wanyonyi stormed to the finals after easily winning in heat 3 at the semifinals today as the reigning Commonwealth Games 800m champion Wycliffe Kinyamal failed to make the cut in heat 1.
Making his debut at the Olympics, the former world under 20 800m champion won the race in 1:43.32 as the fastest heat to lock out Kinyamal who was third after timing 1:45.29.
Wanyonyi was followed by American Bryce Hoppel (1:43.41) as Great Britain’s Max Burgin was third.
