Family Bank Half Marathon: Eliud Kipchoge to grace as Jorum Lumbasi todefend title

Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge will be the star attraction at this year’s Eldoret Family bank Half marathon as Jorum Lumbasi will be on the starting line up to defend his title.

Kipchoge, who won his second Berlin Marathon title a fortnight ago will be one of the great athletes to grace the 11th edition of annual Family Bank half marathon that has had different winners each year.

But the focus will be on Lumbasi who will be yearning for a consecutive win on the course.

Three weeks ago, Lumbasi won the Iten Safaricom 10km,his second win in his running career.

“I will come to defend my title at the race and I hope to make remarkable improvement this ti8me round,” said Lumbasi.

Immediately after Family Bank race, Lumbasi made his maiden international trio where he finished second at the Great Ethiopian Run and at the La Puy en Velay 15km race in France.

And on Saturday morning, family bank officials led by managing Director David Thuku said the race will take the same course and prize money remains the same.

“We chose Eldoret tohost our race because in this area if you throw a stone in air when it lands, there are high chances that it will hit a runner and that is why we always have new winners yearly,” said Thuku.
