Former track mistress Veronica Nyaruai will this Sunday take to the streets of South Africa’s Durban City for FNB Durban 1om run.
The 2005 World Youth 3,000m Champion will be joined by 2012 IAAF World Half Marathon bronze medalist Paskalia Chepkorir Kipkoech.
On Thursday, Nyaruai was on final touches before she travels to the South African state to improve on her time in the 10kmdistance as she eyes international marathons.
As the champion of Huston Half Marathon, Nyaruai will be seeking podium places after she missed to compete for Kenya Defence Forces at the concluded East Africa Community Military Games held in Burundi’s Capital Bujumbura.
The Sunday race is very good for me after recovering from injury and am very well prepared for the race. But the Durban event will depend on weather conditions but am ready.” said Nyaruai, the 2005 wolrd cross country silver medalist.
With her success on track events, Nyaruai won scoped silver at the 2006 IAAF world cross country junior championships staged in Japanese City, Fukuoka.
Coached with her husband Isaac Macharia, the 2007 All Africa Games 1,500m silver medalist has her best time of 31:55 in 10km distance hoping to improve in Durban and has 67.58 personal best following her exploits Huston Texas.
With aging coming in, Nyaruai decided to move out of track to road race when she won another silver at the 2012 Africa Athletics Championships in Port Novo, Benin.
“I feel good when I run road races than track because am growing old now,” explained Nyaruai.
