Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions Gor Mahia will be be playing USM Alger in a must win match in the CAF Confederation Cup to cut into the quarter-finals.
Gor will be making history in tomorrow’s match, trying to achieve what has been eluding the 17th time KPL champions for many years that comes with a Sh35 million bounty.
K’Ogalo last won the title in 1986, then CAF Cup winners’ cup, which is the equivalent of the current CAF Champions League after they managed to force their way into the CAF Confederation Cup group stage at the expense of SuperSport United, and are now on the brink of qualification to the prestigious knock out stage.
Last weekend, Gor won their 17th title after trouncing their arch-rivals AFC Leopards SC 2-0 lead pool D with eight points same as their opponents USM Alger in second position, two more than Rwanda’s Rayon Sport who will be facing Tanzania’s Yanga at the same time.
In light of the new rules that place head to head statistics ahead of goal difference as a tie breaker in this competition, the green and white shirts must collect nothing short of victory in the match to advance to the quarterfinals.
Gor lost 2-1 at home to Rwanda’s Rayon Sport in a match played at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.
