Harambee Stars whip Namibia to go top

Harambee Stars, the national men’s soccer team defeated Namibia in their second pool J match to top the group at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers at the Orlando stadium in South Africa.

Goals from John Avire and Duke Abuya handed the Engin Firat coached side a 2-1 away win in the second match of the pool after a barren draw against Zimbabwe in the first match.

Avire scored in the 58th minute to hand kenya 1-0 lead before Abuya doubling in the 75th minute for a 2-0 lead, however, Deon Hotto halved the score for Namibia in the dying minutes for a 2-1 victory.

The win propelled Kenya to the summit of the pool after Cameroon played out to a barren draw against Zimbabwe. Both kenya and Cameroon are tied on four points with a goal while Zimbabwe lies second with two points and Namibia tailing with no point.

Kenya will now face Cameroon away on October 11th in Yaounde while Zimbabwe will host Namibia in search of a ticket for AFCON set for January 2025 in Rabat, Morocco.
