Shashwat Harish shot to the top of the leaderboard in the boys 13-14 years old category after day one of the Invitational tournament at the Windsor Golf and Country Club on Saturday 4th January 2024.
Shashwat was in a class of his own as he shot two under par 70 to take a seven-shot lead after the first round. Uganda’s Shashank Sachin Gadre who played alongside Harish and Peter Gachogo finished the day in second place with a score of five over par 77. Amar Shah was third, one stroke behind Gadre.
In the boys 15-18 years category, Tsevi Soni is at the top of the leaderboard with a score of one over par 73. Hot on his heels two strokes back is Mitansh Thacker with a score of three over par 75. Nathan Mwangi is third, only one stroke behind Thacker. The top five are separated by only five strokes.
In the girls 15-18 years category, Maryam Mwakitawa and Bianca Ngecu are tied at the top with a score of seven over par 79. Mwakitawa is back on the local scene after more than two years absence. Audrey Gachora is third, one shot behind the leaders.
The Invitational has attracted more than 116 golfers from 10 countries in Asia, Africa and Europe. The three-day tournament will conclude on Monday. The event is crucial as it will count for the order of merit points for non-handicapped and handicapped boys and girls between 15 -18 years old in the Kenyan Junior Golf Foundation system for the year 2024. It is also an event where they will earn World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points
