The Africa under 20 javelin silver medalist and Kenya’s only javelin women representative Irene Jepkemboi bowed out of the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.
Making her maiden appearance, Jepkemboi carried Kenya’s hopes in javelin but she could not manage to go past the qualification round despite having two national titles, finished a disappointing 13th with a throw of 56.55m.
In her category, Jepkemboi’s distance was won by Serbian Adriana Vilagosin 66.06m, ahead of McKenzie Little of Australia (65.54m) and Ecuadorian Juleisy Angulo completed the podium in 63.25m.
She fell s 60.31m qualifying mark below her Prefontaine Classic, the Eugene Diamond League in July, which was also a national record.
