Itigo set to reclaim Rift Valley school title

Former East Africa soccer finalists Itigo Girls has been battling multiple national Kenya secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) champions Wiyeta as Rift Valley Secondary Schools Sports Association kicks off next week at Baringo Boys in Baringo County where 14 counties will be battling out for one slot at the national championships to be held in Kisumu.

Itigo, who lost to Kitale Queens, which was made up of players from Wiyeta Girls at the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Rift valley region finals in Eldoret leads pool C alongside Lodwar girls from Turkana County while Wiyeta represents Trans Nzoia County in girls under 20 soccer.

School head coach Hinox Kitam said they are well prepared for the event as they set a revenge mission against Wiyeta that has troubled them for the better part in the regional championships.

“We are training well ahead of the championships. We are the national material and we hope to represent the larger region at the national championships,” said Kitam.

Last year, the Nandi based team lost in regional quarters but Kitam has hopes off playing not only at the national but East Africa.

“Wiyeta is a good team though we will be fighting our way. We have a great team and our target is East Africa Championships in Tanzania,” said Kitam.

The same were echoed by school Principal Julia Samoe who predicted tough championships as the games kick off.

“our girls are preparing well, ready for the championships. As a school, we giving them moral psychological  support to ensure they get enough time for the championships,” said Samoe.

She added that apart from supporting players, the school also appreciates coaches who have dedicated their time to ensure they get good results.

“The coaches have selected the best of the best from the school and we hope to go all the way to the finals as we prepare for East Africa,” added Samoe.
