The reigning Olympic Games marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir won the London marathon with a world women only marathon record.
Jepchirchir, the former world half marathon record holder won the London marathon in 2:16:16 with a world record lowering the Mary Keitany world record since 2017 at 2:17.01.
She edged out Ethiopia’s world record holder Tigst Assefa as former champion Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya was third.
The victory is great for Kenya as Jepchirchir has been drafted into the Olympic Games marathon team that will be staged in Paris, France in August.
