Victor Kipchirchir Rotich and Emily Chepkemboi were the winners of the 5th edition of Eldoret City Marathon held today in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
Kipchirchir won a hattrick in the race after recording winning the 2021, 2022 and the 2024 edition breaking the jinx of one time winner.
“The secret of winning is to train well, which I managed to do that and this is home and winning at home is better,” said Kipchirchir.
Kipchirchir won the race in 2:12.50 beating felix Mutai to second at 2:12.56 and Evans Kipruto completing the podium at 2:13.20.
“This was my first race this year and because I had an injury, I did not run any race. With closing marathon season, I will now focus on the new season,” he said.
Emily Chepkemoi was the surprise winner of the race that entered its 5th edition.
After missing to compete at the Paris marathon two weeks ago due to visa hiccup, Chepkemoi said that it was good not to waste her training and decided to focus on Eldoret City.
“I had a very good training to compete at the Paris Marathon but since I missed it due to visa, I decided to direct my energy for this race and I am now a winner,” said the athlete who trains at the Kapsait Athletics camp in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
Chepkemoi who won the women race in 2:30.14 ahead of Martha Akeno (2:31.22) and Joan Jepkosgei completing the podium at 2:34.16.
