Jonathan Korir targeting best time at Berlin marathon

Making his debut at the World Marathon Majors (WMM) Jonathan Korir will be chasing his best time when he lines up at the 2019 Berlin Marathon set for 29th September in the Germany capital.

Korir, who enjoys 2:06.51 as personal best in the 42km distance after finishing 8th at the 2018 Amsterdam marathon won by Lawrence Cherono with a course record of 2:04.06 has the determination to run better.

The athlete who trains in Kaptagat at Global Sports Communication with world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge and world half Marathon record holder Geoffrey Kamworor said his debut will make a difference in his career.

“This will be my first time to compete at the world majors in Berlin marathon and I want to leave a mark in Berlin. Am preparing well for the race which will be very competitive, waiting for that good day targeting to improve on my time,” said Korir.

“With my personal best at 2:06.51, I want to try my best to lower that time,” he said.

He stated that if his body and weather will favour him on that day, he wants to run at least 2:4.00

“I may not be famous among many Kenyans but I have hope of running well when that day comes,” assured Korir who ran at Hamburg marathon in April, finishing position eight.

With his two marathons after graduating from track timing, he says he has gained experience in road running.

“My target in Berlin is not to break the world record but to run my best time because of my preparations,” said Korir whose training mate Kipchoge broke the 42km distance on the same course last year to 2:01.39 coached by Patrick Sang.

He attributed his good training to his mentors Kipchoge and Kamworor who have inspired his career.

“Training with such great runners, they give moral support and the ability to run well. They are great people both in training and at the personal life,” added Korir.
