Former Olympic Games javelin silver medalist Julius Kiplangat Yego set the record by winning six gold medals at the final day of the Africa Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana.
Yego, the winner of the Commonwealth Games javelin title hauled 79.87 metres to win the title today ahead of Ghana’s Obang Otagiogulla who settled for silver in 77.60 meres and South African Smit Douw coming third at 76.00 metres.
The victory handed Yego a six peat since his journey in javelin way back in 2012 in Port Novo, Benini. In the biennial championships, Yego retained his title two years later in Marrakech, Morocco (2014), Assaba, Nigeria (2018), Port Louis, Mauritius (2022), Douala, Cameroon (2024) then defending in 2026.
In 2010, he won a bronze during the championships in Nairobi, Kenya.
