Former Nantes Marathon champion Emily Jepkoech and upstart Brian Kipsang braved the terrains, muddy and rocky roady to win the third edition of Kakamega Forest Marathon titles.
It was good harvest for newcomers Naomi Jebet and Elias Kemboi who took half marathon honours.
Jepkoech who won the 2015 Nantes Marathon ran her first race in three years after recovering from hio injury that has kept her out of competitions.
The Uasin Gishu born run cut the tape in 2:55.21 ahead of second places Salina Jebet with a single second at 2:56.40 as Viola Bor completed the podium in 2:58.08.
“I came here not expecting a win but to try the healing process of my hio and I managed a win,” said Jepkoech.
Despite running without a coach or a club she ensured her second win in the career as she sets focus to international races.
It was the best reward for Kipsang who made his maiden win in all competitions.
He won the race in 2:23.29 ahead of Bernard Kimaiyo (2:23.45) and Wesley Langat (2:24.17).
Jebet and Kemboi were the winners in half marathon in women and men races respectively.
