With just 14 days after he was given handicap, Emmanuel Talel was the winner of Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) golf tournament played on nine hole Eldoret golf club.
Handicap 26 played moved two places up to 24 after the win, beating his closest, the lady winner Jane Koech on count back on 42 stable ford points.
Even after shooting two blanks in the second nine where he finished with 20 points, he recovered and went ahead to take the title.
He blanked on hole 11 and 16 but recovered on hole 17 with a bogey and concluded with par on hole 18 after sinking 22 points in the front nine.
He attributed his win to the week long practice along the range.
“On Monday I sponsored caddies tournament where I also played with them. Come Tuesday, I was on the range to Friday just sharpening my skill that has finally paid off,” said Talel.
Home player Jane Koech was the lady winner with 42 points losing the title to Talel while former lady captain Catherine Gatua was the lady runner up with 39 points.
Tom Mutei was the men’s winner on 39 points followed by Nelson Orgut on 38 points. Philp Melly was men’s second runner up (37) beating Jeremiah Kayago to 4th on count back.
Fast rising Ishaan Nathaani was the junior winner with 38 points, Pyare Aggarwal was the senior winner on 36 points.
Guest prize was taken J. Omolo, as C. Atengo and P.Karare were the women’s and men’s sponsor winners. Lukas Cheserek won nearest to the pin prize on hole 11 as long hitters Mildred Natecho and Kennedy Serem were the longest drive winners in women and men respectively before Amos Butit (20) won the front nine title while his counterpart Brian Kimeli (22) was the second nine winner.
