World half marathon silver medalist Kibiwott Kandie set up a sweet revenge over world half marathon champion Jacob Kiplimo to win today’s Valencia Half marathon with a world record.
As Kenyan Sheila Chepkirui won silver behind Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba who won the title
Kibiwott, who has now beaten Kiplimo two times won the 21km race in 57:32 lowering three time world cross country champion Geoffrey Kamworor’s time 58:01.
The 24-year-old edged out 20 year old Kiplimo who was second in 57:37 before world 10km record holder Rhonex Kipruto completed the podium in 57:49 as compatriot Alexander Mutiso also chalking personal best of 57:59 for fourth place.
In the women’s race, Dibaba became the fastest debutant over the distance when she won the women’s race in 65:18, beating Kenya’s Sheila Chepkirui to second place in 65:39.
