Inspired by her husband, Linda Kangogo Jesang carded 42 stableford points to win the Lawyers golf tournament played today on nine hole Eldoret golf club.
Returning from a long maternity leave, Jesang won the title on count back over playing partner Wesley Kiprono as Ajay Shah completed the podium with 40 points.
Despite shooting blanks, handicap 25 golfer managed to hold onto her morning lead to claim the title to start her Christmas celebrations in advance.
She said her win did not come easily but hard work in training especially at the Eldoret Sports Club that Andrew Chelogoi and Moses Tanui created a range for training.
“I must thank Chelogoi and Tanui for setting up a training range at Sports Club where I have been training the whole of this week. It is fan to win in such big tournaments,” said Jesang who fired a blank in hole three par 3.
She said that it was her first win after one and half years out of maternity leave but her return has paid off.
“I have been out for that long and a win must be celebrated. I have been motivated by my husband (Nathan Tororei) who is a lawyer and the club vice-captain to take the sport seriously. He drops me and encourages me to play goof golf,” explained ever smiling Jesang.
She made a number of bogeys and double bogeys with a par in the opening nine with a blank for a total of 16 points before returning with a birdie in 14 with a number of pars, and bogeys for a total of 26 points in the second nine.
Club chairperson Dr. Florence Murgor and jack Tuwei were the longest drive winners in ladies and men respectively as Linah Sha won the nearest to pin prize.
With 20 and 21 points, H.S Plahe and Elgeyo Marakwet County speaker Philemon Sabulei won the first and second nine titles respectively.
