Former world under 20 1,500m champion Vincent Kibet Keter, Cynthia Chepngeno, Diana Chepkemoi, Faith Kipsang and Alonso Kitaita dominated day one of Athletics Kenya track and field weekend meet at the newly build Afraha stadium in Nakuru.
After missing a medal at the World Indoor championships in Nanjing, China, Kibet won the 1,500m title when he clocked 3:38.3 for the title beating World Cross Country mixed relay champion Daniel Kyumbe Munguti who came second at 3:40.6 and Kenya Prisons’ Charles Simotwo in third at 3:41.0.
Chepngeno won the 5,000m title when she clocked 15:28.6 ahead of Kenya Navy’s Gladys Jeptepkeny (15:29.6) and Cynthia Chepkirui timing 15:29.9 for third.
Diana Chepkemoi won the women 3,000m steeplechase title at 9:38.0 beating Celestine Biwott to second and Winny Chepteek was third at 9:39.0 and 10:16.8 respectively.
In the field events, Faith Kipsang and Alonzo Kitaita were triple jump winners in men and women respectively.
Kipsang cleared the sand at 12.55m followed by Gloria Mulei (12.42m) and Martha Monyenche (12.24m) in an event that attracted four athletes.
In men, Kitaita won the title when he jumped 15.93m beating Kevin Kemboi Kiprono (15.82m) and Gilbert Pkemoi (15.50m)
