Symon Cherono Kibai and Sarah Wangari made the slots for 2021 Deaflympic Games to be staged in Caxias do Sul in Brazil as Wamira siblings of David, beryl and Rael took charge at the trials held today at the Nyayo National stadium.
The Uasin Gishu based Kibai won the 5,000m to qualify when he crossed the finish line in 14:41.9 and was joined by Ian Kahinga was second in 15:04.4 and Amos Kiplagat (15:05.9) to book for Summer Olympic Games set to start on May 1st to May 15th in Brazil.
As Kibai dominated men’s race, Wangari won the women’s 5,000m title in 18:55.4 ahead Grancy Kendagor was second in 19:08.1 with Lorine Ngonga coming third timing 21;52.5 with Ngonga missing the cut as the qualifying time is 19:30.
But focus was on Wamira siblings Deaflympic Games 200m bronze medalist David, Beryl and Rael who dominated sprints at the trials.
David won the men’s 100m heat one in 10.6 beating Isaac Atima (10.8) and Edwin Terer third in 11.1.
Beryl, the 2013 200m gold medalist at the Deaflympic Games in Sofia, Bulgaria won her 100m in women heat in 12.9 beating Rael to second in 12.4.
