National 10,000m champion Irene Kamais in little known Sebastien Kirimu sawe were the winners of the Roma Ostia half marathon held yesterday in Rome, Italy.
In an all Kenyan affair, Kamais won the women title with Sawe claiming the men’s title to dominate Italy’s City.
Kamais won the title in 66:03 erasing former course record set by fellow Kenyan Joyce Tele 66.35. she was followed by Ethiopian Kadir Madina Mehamed who crossed the line in second with a time of 67.09 before Ethiopia’s Demise Shure Ware closed the podium three finishes in a time of 68.17.
In men, Sawe led a 1and 3 Kenyan podium finish as he erased the previous course record of 58:44 that had been set in 2016 by Solomon Kirwa Yego.
Sawe set the new course record of 58:02 and was followed by Ethiopian Diriba Gemechu Dida who crossed the line in a time of 59:21.
Kenya’s Leonard Langat Kipkoech closed the first three podium finishes in 59:22.
Moses Koech and Sila Kiptoo both from Kenya finished in fourth and fifth place in a time of 59:31 and 59:56 respectively.
