Kipchoge beat Kipruto for 5th Berlin marathon title

World record holder Eliud Kipchoge won the Berlin marathon title, the 5th title of the race since he started running in marathon way back in 2013.

The double Olympic Games marathon winner timed 2:02.42 for the title beating compatriot Vincent Kipkemoi in his marathon debut at 2:03.13 with Ethiopian Tadese Takele spiling podium sweep for Kenya in 2:03.24 as Ronald Korir, another marathon debutant in 4th at 2:04.22.

2022 London marathon champion Amos Kipruto came a distance 7th after timing .

Kipchoe won his first Berlin title in 2015 at 2:04.00, won again in 2017 in 2:03.32 befire setting the world record at 2:01.39 and lowered his time to 2:01.19 in 2022.

Today’s win promoted the Nandi born runner to 5th title, he said that he wanted to set another record but that did not come through.

“I was focused to break the world record but that did not happen because that is what the sport is all about. What matters most is the victory, which I have achieved,” said Kipchoge.
